2025 China Open Beijing ATP Draw: Sinner Zverev Medvedev Rublev

-

The 2025 China Open draw is packed with tennis superstars, and it’s setting up some pretty amazing first-round battles in Beijing.

Jannik Sinner gets the top seed this time around, but he won’t have an easy start. The world No. 2 faces Marin Cilic right out of the gate – that’s a Grand Slam champion waiting for him in round one.

Last year’s Beijing final was incredible. Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz went toe-to-toe in what many called one of the best matches of 2024.

This year’s different though. Alcaraz decided to skip Beijing and head to Tokyo instead, which opened the door for Sinner to claim the top seeding.

Alexander Zverev drew the second seed and he’s not getting any favors either. The German star, who had some tough losses at the Laver Cup recently, starts against Lorenzo Sonego.

The bottom half of the draw is loaded with former world No. 1 players looking to get back to their best form.

Daniil Medvedev sits at the eighth seed and he’s been making some big changes lately. The Russian recently split with his long-time coach Gilles Cervara and brought in a completely new team.

His first test? Cameron Norrie, another former top-10 player who knows how to cause problems.

If Medvedev gets through that match, he could run into Zverev as early as the quarterfinals. That’s a blockbuster potential matchup right there.

Andrey Rublev also landed in the tough bottom half. He’ll face Flavio Cobolli first – one of five players who just flew straight from the Laver Cup to Beijing.

Talk about a quick turnaround.

The Italian Factor

Lorenzo Musetti is riding some serious momentum into Beijing. The Italian just reached the final in Chengdu, so his Asian swing is off to a great start.

His opener against big-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard should be fun to watch. Perricard’s serve has been causing headaches for everyone lately.

If both Rublev and Musetti advance, they’re on track for a quarterfinal showdown that could be pretty special.

The top half looks a bit more manageable, at least on paper.

Alex de Minaur snagged the third seed and he’s been playing some exceptional tennis lately. His performance at the Laver Cup was really impressive.

De Minaur gets a home wild card in Yunchaokete Bu for his opener. The Australian will be the heavy favorite there.

But here’s where it gets interesting – Jakub Mensik is lurking in his quarter. The young Czech player faces Miomir Kecmanovic first, and if he wins, we might get a rematch from their recent battle in San Francisco.

De Minaur won that one, but Mensik’s been improving fast.

The draw really shows how competitive the ATP 500 level has become. Even the top seeds are getting tested right from round one.

Players are clearly treating these Asian swing events seriously. The prize money’s good, the ranking points matter, and everyone wants to build momentum before the Shanghai Masters.

With Alcaraz choosing Tokyo over Beijing, it opens up some interesting possibilities in the draw. Sinner’s the obvious favorite now, but tennis rarely goes according to plan.

The tournament starts next week, and based on this draw, we’re in for some early fireworks.
