The 2025 Shanghai Masters will wrap up this year’s Asian tennis tour, and the draw is absolutely stacked.
This marks the 14th edition of the Shanghai Masters since the ATP Masters 1000 event launched in 2009. What’s pretty amazing is that only seven different players have won the title across all those years.
One guy has dominated more than anyone else.

Novak Djokovic has claimed four Shanghai titles, making him the tournament’s most successful player. For a while, it wasn’t clear if the Serbian legend would even make the trip to China this year.
But he confirmed his participation just days before the event started. Despite playing very little tennis in 2025, the 24-time Grand Slam champion still earned the fourth seed.
Like all seeded players, Djokovic gets a first-round bye. His second-round opponent could be Marin Cilic, another major winner who faces Corentin Moutet in the opening round.
While Djokovic’s presence definitely adds excitement, most eyes will be on the top two seeds.
Carlos Alcaraz sits at the very top of the draw as the number one seed.
The Spaniard is coming straight from Tokyo, where things got off to a scary start. He injured himself in his opening match at the Japan Open, and for a moment it looked like he might have to withdraw.
But Alcaraz seems healthy enough to continue playing in Japan, which means he’ll likely be ready for Shanghai too.
If the six-time Grand Slam champion does show up in China, he’ll face either Learner Tien or Miomir Kecmanovic in his second-round match.
Sinner Anchors the Bottom Half
On the complete opposite side of the draw, Jannik Sinner appears as the second seed. The Italian will start against Daniel Altmaier or one of the qualifiers who make it through.
The draw looks really well-balanced, with dangerous players spread throughout both halves.
Daniil Medvedev, the former world number one, could meet Alcaraz in the fourth round. The Russian opens against either Yibing Wu or a qualifier.
Alexander Zverev also landed in Alcaraz’s half of the draw. He’ll play either a qualifier or Mariano Navone in his second-round match.
Meanwhile, Sinner’s potential fourth-round opponent is Alexander Bublik, who’s been one of the tour’s hottest players over the past few months.
Sinner also has Djokovic in his half, which sets up some fascinating possibilities. His likely quarter-final opponent would be Taylor Fritz, the fifth-seeded American.
Fritz will start against either Fabian Marozsan or Stan Wawrinka, who received a wild card into the tournament.
Another intriguing name in Sinner’s half is Ben Shelton. The American has been missing since getting injured at the US Open, so it’s unclear if he’ll actually play.
But seeing him in the draw is definitely encouraging news for his fans.
The sixth seed would face David Goffin or Alexandre Muller in his first Shanghai match if he does compete.
