Cristian Garin In Furious Row After Bastad Defeat

-

Cristian Garin and Camilo Ugo Carabelli just had one of the nastiest post-match confrontations you’ll see all season. And it happened right after their match at the 2025 Bastad Open in Sweden.

Both guys love playing on clay courts more than anything else. They were probably counting on this tournament to rack up some crucial ranking points before the tour switches back to hard courts for the rest of the year.

The Canadian Open starts July 27th, and after that? It’s all hard courts until 2025 wraps up.

Garin’s Bad Day Gets Worse

Things didn’t go Garin’s way on the court either. The Chilean got completely outplayed, losing 4-6, 4-6 to Carabelli.

Carabelli was just the better player that day. He broke Garin’s serve five times and looked solid from start to finish.

But here’s what everyone’s talking about.

The real drama happened after they shook hands at the net. A video caught Garin absolutely losing it after something Carabelli said to him. The exchange wasn’t in English, but when you translate it… wow.

Apparently Carabelli called Garin stupid during their handshake. That set Garin off completely.

“What’s wrong with you, dude, why are you calling me stupid? Tell me what I did to you, idiot, what did I do to you, asshole?”

Carabelli wasn’t backing down either. He told Garin he was a fool, wished him a nice flight back home to Chile, and then dropped this bomb: he told the former Wimbledon quarterfinalist that no one loves him.

Yeah, that didn’t help the situation.

Garin completely lost it at that point. The 29-year-old said he’d be waiting for Carabelli outside the court. He wanted to see if his opponent had the guts to meet him there for round two.

What Really Happened?

Nobody knows for sure what started this whole mess.

There were no reports of Carabelli actually meeting Garin afterward. Smart move, honestly. When you’ve just beaten someone and they’re that fired up, it’s probably best to just head to the locker room.

This whole thing shows how much tension can build up during a match that fans never even notice. Sometimes you can tell when players don’t like each other, but other times it comes completely out of nowhere.

Aryna Sabalenka’s problems with Amanda Anisimova at Wimbledon were way more obvious. Sabalenka got really annoyed when Anisimova didn’t apologize after hitting a lucky net cord shot. She also didn’t like how Anisimova was screaming before rallies were even over.

That one was different though. Sabalenka actually talked about it openly after losing that semifinal match in three sets.

She was gracious at the net, like you’re supposed to be. But when Anisimova got crushed 0-6, 0-6 by Iga Swiatek in the final? Sabalenka probably wasn’t feeling too sympathetic.

Anisimova’s had a few of these moments this year. At the 2025 Miami Open, Mirra Andreeva basically accused her of faking an injury to mess with the momentum of their match.

Anisimova called for a medical timeout during a crucial moment, and Andreeva wasn’t buying it. She thought the American was just trying to disrupt the flow of the game.

After winning that match, Anisimova posted an Instagram story showing off a pretty nasty blister. So maybe she really did need the treatment.

The two haven’t played each other since Miami, but you can bet their next meeting is going to be interesting. That kind of tension doesn’t just disappear.

As for Garin and Carabelli? They’ll probably cross paths again on the clay court circuit. It’ll be interesting to see if they’ve cooled off by then.
