Djokovic Health Update After Miracle Pills Incident at Wimbledon

-

Novak Djokovic wasn’t feeling his best during his opening match at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships. But you wouldn’t have known it from watching the first set.

The 38-year-old Serbian faced a pretty tough situation on Centre Court. He had to take on dangerous Frenchman Alexandre Muller just minutes after watching another upset unfold on the same court.

Arthur Rinderknech had just stunned third-seeded Alexander Zverev in a massive shock.

Dominating Start, Then Trouble

At first, Djokovic looked absolutely unstoppable. He had break points in every single service game from Muller. Sure, he missed three chances in the opening game, but after that? He converted his first opportunity in each following game.

The result was a crushing 6-1 first set.

But then something went wrong. Really wrong.

The second set was a completely different story. Djokovic couldn’t convert any of his 11 break-point chances. He even had two set points in the tiebreak and couldn’t close it out, losing 7-9.

That’s when things got interesting.

The Mystery Pills

During the third set, Djokovic called for the doctor. The medical team came out and gave him some pills right there on court.

Whatever they were, they worked like magic.

Suddenly, the seven-time Wimbledon champion was flying around the court again. He wrapped up the match 6-1, 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-2 like the champion he’s always been.

After the match, everyone wanted to know what happened during that rough patch in the second set.

"I went from feeling my absolutely best for a set and a half to my absolute worst for about 45 minutes," Djokovic explained. "Whether it was a stomach bug, I don’t know what it is, but just struggled with that."

He called them "miracle pills" from the doctor.

"The energy kind of kicked back after some doctor’s miracle pills and I managed to finish the match on a good note."

Still Believing in Number 25

Despite the health scare, Djokovic isn’t backing down from his ultimate goal. When asked if he thinks he can win his 25th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, his answer was pure champion mentality.

"I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think I have a chance. I think I always have a chance."

The Serbian legend believes he’s earned the right to feel confident about going all the way. And he’s got good reason to think that way at Wimbledon specifically.

"I think I earned my right to really feel like I can go all the way to the title. I always felt like grass, particularly in the second part of my career, was really the surface where I played my best tennis."

"So why not do it again?"

Tricky Test Coming Up

Djokovic’s next challenge won’t be easy. Playing a home player at any Grand Slam is tough, but at Wimbledon? That’s especially tricky.

Daniel Evans is waiting in the second round.

The British player actually has some history with Djokovic. In fact, Evans won their only previous meeting at the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters. Playing on grass at home with the crowd behind him, Evans could definitely cause some problems.

But if those miracle pills keep working, Djokovic should be just fine.
