Djokovic Practices With Son Stefan at New Training Base After Serbia Move

-

Novak Djokovic is already back on the tennis court after getting knocked out of the 2025 US Open. But don’t expect any intense training sessions just yet.

The 38-year-old’s dream of becoming the first player ever to win 25 Grand Slams came to an end when Carlos Alcaraz beat him in straight sets during the semifinals at Flushing Meadows.

Djokovic probably had some hope going into that match. After all, he’d won their last two meetings, including at the 2025 Australian Open.

But Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have pretty much owned the ATP Tour since the start of 2024.

After the loss, Djokovic flew home from New York to spend time with his family. Here’s the interesting part though – he went to Greece instead of Serbia. Recent reports suggest he’s now permanently living there rather than his home country.

Whether it’s permanent or just temporary, Djokovic decided to make good use of Greece’s tennis facilities.

He had a hit with his son Stefan on one of the country’s hard courts. And honestly? It’s pretty heartwarming to watch.

A Father-Son Tennis Session

In the video, you can see Djokovic and Stefan hitting cross-court forehands to each other. The tennis legend is clearly dialing back his power to give his son a fighting chance in the rallies.

Stefan’s still growing though, so the bounce was quite high for him to handle.

After Stefan sent a forehand wide, both father and son collected balls together before getting back to it. They resumed the same drill – cross-court forehands back and forth.

Djokovic’s final shot in the video? An acute angle that made Stefan scramble off-screen.

You can imagine how nice this must’ve been for the 24-time Grand Slam champion. After weeks of high-pressure tennis in New York, he gets to unwind and just enjoy hitting with his kid.

Djokovic’s been pretty open about how tough traveling for tournaments has become. He really wants to spend consistent time at home with his family these days.

That makes moments like this – when they can travel with him or just hit together – even more special.

A Special Geneva Memory

Speaking of special family moments, there was another touching one earlier this season.

Djokovic’s only title this year came at May’s 2025 Geneva Open. This was his first tournament after splitting with Andy Murray as his coach – they’d only worked together for a few months.

He beat Hubert Hurkacz 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 in a thriller of a final.

Now, a 250-level clay court title isn’t exactly the biggest achievement of Djokovic’s career. But this one carried serious weight because it was his 100th ATP title.

Only Roger Federer has more ATP titles since the tour started in 1990, with 103. But overtaking his former rival doesn’t seem to be Djokovic’s main focus – he’s still chasing Grand Slams.

The really touching moment came during his press conference after beating Hurkacz.

Stefan unexpectedly asked his dad a question during the media session, which made Djokovic burst out laughing. That moment might’ve meant more to him than actually winning the 100th title.

The Challenge Ahead

Competing with Alcaraz and Sinner is getting tougher and tougher for Djokovic. Don’t get me wrong – his level at 38 is still incredible.

But having his family’s support clearly gives him strength to keep going.

Whether he can add that elusive 25th Grand Slam remains to be seen. For now though, he seems content hitting balls with Stefan on a court in Greece.

And honestly? Sometimes that’s exactly what you need after a tough loss.
