Novak Djokovic just hit another incredible milestone this week. He’s now spent 900 weeks inside the tennis world’s Top 10 rankings.
That’s pretty amazing when you think about it. Almost 17 and a half years of staying at the very top of professional tennis.
The week after Wimbledon wrapped up, players had three ATP 250 tournaments to choose from. Two were in Europe, one in Mexico. Not the biggest events on the calendar, but still important for rankings points.
| Name | Age | Points | Stats 2024 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Novak Djokovic | 38 | 8,360 | 18 - 6 |
Denis Shapovalov took the title in Los Cabos on the hard courts. Alexander Bublik won in Gstaad. And Luciano Darderi lifted the trophy in Bastad.
These wins meant some big moves in the rankings. Shapovalov jumped five spots and he’s back in the Top 30 at No. 28. Bublik also cracked the Top 30 again, landing at No. 30. Darderi had the biggest jump, moving up nine places to World No. 46.
Sinner Still Comfortable at the Top
There was one change in the Top 10, but it wasn’t at the very top. Jannik Sinner is still firmly planted at No. 1 with 12,030 points. That’s a pretty comfortable lead over Carlos Alcaraz in second place, who has 8,600 points.
Both Sinner and Alcaraz have already pulled out of the upcoming Canadian Open in Toronto.
Alexander Zverev dropped 330 points this week. That’s because he reached the Hamburg Open final last year and didn’t defend those points this time around. The German is still third with 6,030 points, which keeps him well ahead of fourth-place Taylor Fritz by 995 points.
Jack Draper stayed put at No. 5 with 4,650 points. He’s also skipping Toronto. That gives him a 520-point cushion over the player right behind him.
Djokovic’s Historic Milestone
That player is Djokovic himself. The 24-time Grand Slam champion is sitting at No. 6, and this marks his 900th career week in the Top 10.
Here’s what makes that number even more incredible: 428 of those weeks were spent at World No. 1. Only 75 weeks came outside the Top 5, including this current one.
The battle behind Djokovic is really heating up. Lorenzo Musetti holds seventh place with 3,350 points. But Ben Shelton is breathing down his neck at No. 8 with just 20 fewer points.
Shelton was actually the only Top 10 player to move up this week. He passed Holger Rune, who slipped to No. 9 after losing 100 points from his Hamburg quarterfinal run last year.
Rublev Stays Active
Andrey Rublev was the only Top 10 guy who actually competed during this post-Wimbledon week. He made the semifinals in Los Cabos, which earned him 100 points and brought his total to 3,160.
The fight for those last Top 10 spots is getting pretty intense. Frances Tiafoe, Casper Ruud, Alex de Minaur, Daniil Medvedev, Tommy Paul, and Karen Khachanov are all ranked between 11th and 16th.
What’s interesting is that all of these guys have been in the Top 10 before. They know what it’s like to be there, and they’re all hungry to get back.
With the Canadian Open coming up and several top players sitting it out, there could be some big opportunities for ranking moves in the coming weeks.
