Jack Draper Ends 2025 Season Early After Unexpected Injury Setback

-

Jack Draper’s season is over. The British tennis star won’t play another tournament in 2025 after an arm injury that’s been bothering him since Wimbledon finally forced him to shut things down.

It’s a pretty disappointing end to what started as a breakthrough year for the 22-year-old.

His season began with him retiring hurt at the Australian Open. And now it’s ending with him pulling out of the US Open before his second-round match.

But between those two injury setbacks? Draper played some absolutely incredible tennis.

The highs and lows of 2025

He reached the final at the Qatar Open and actually won the Indian Wells Masters – his first big title. Then he made it to another final in Madrid.

During the three months when Jannik Sinner was suspended, you could argue Draper was the best player on tour. That’s pretty amazing for someone who was barely in the top 50 at the start of the year.

All that success shot him into the top 10 for the first time.

People were talking about him as a real contender for Wimbledon. The home crowd was buzzing about their new tennis hero.

Then reality hit hard. Marin Cilic knocked him out in the second round at the All England Club, and that arm injury started acting up again.

Draper missed the entire North American summer swing – all those big tournaments leading up to the US Open. When he finally came back for New York, he managed just one match before calling it quits.

The injury has been nagging him since Wimbledon, and it’s clear he can’t push through it anymore.

Draper speaks out

He posted an update on social media that really shows how frustrated he is with the situation.

“Unfortunately, the injury to my arm is something I have to rest and means I’ll be sitting out the rest of 2025. It is very difficult for me to accept, as I was building some incredible momentum this year and playing some great stuff.”

“However, I’ve been through this before, and I always come back stronger as I’m so motivated to fulfil my potential as a player. Huge thanks to everyone who backs me to do well and supports me on my journey. Can’t wait to get back out there and give it my all. See you soon!”

You can hear the disappointment in those words. He was supposed to play tournaments in Chengdu, Tokyo, and Shanghai. Now he’s watching from the sidelines instead.

What’s next for Britain’s new star?

Here’s the thing about Draper – when he’s healthy, he’s really, really good.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have been running the show on the men’s tour. Everyone’s been waiting for someone to break up their party.

As a Masters 1000 champion, Draper has proven he can beat anybody on his day. That left-handed serve of his is a weapon, and when he’s moving well, he can trouble anyone.

The question is consistency. And more importantly, can he stay healthy?

This isn’t the first time injuries have derailed his progress. It’s becoming a pattern that’s pretty concerning for British tennis fans who see him as their next big hope.

If he can figure out the injury issues, there’s no reason he can’t crack the top 3. The talent is obviously there – we saw it during those incredible months earlier this year.

But tennis is brutal on the body, especially for someone with his aggressive style. The next few months of rest and recovery could determine whether he becomes a consistent title contender or just another "what if" story.

The good news? He’s still only 22. There’s plenty of time to get this right.
