Jannik Sinner Shows Rare Anger Toward His Team

-

Jannik Sinner is usually one of the calmest guys on the ATP Tour. But at the 2025 Paris Masters, he did something pretty shocking – he actually got mad at his team.

The Italian star has a really tight relationship with his coaches Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi. These guys have been huge in helping him become the player he is today.

Cahill was supposed to retire from coaching after this season. But now there’s talk he might stick around in some way – maybe not traveling as much but still showing up for the biggest tournaments.

Here’s the thing about Sinner: he just doesn’t get rattled. Ever.

The four-time Grand Slam champion is basically a tennis robot. He keeps his emotions locked down and just gets the job done, match after match.

That’s exactly what happened in his quarterfinal against Ben Shelton. Sinner beat the American for the seventh straight time, which really shows how much work Shelton still needs to do if he wants to compete with guys like Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

The moment that shocked everyone

Sinner was dominating that match, breaking Shelton’s huge serve four times. After one of those breaks, his team celebrated – but they didn’t even get out of their seats.

That’s when Sinner snapped.

During the changeover, he walked over to grab his towel near where his coaches were sitting. Then he said something nobody expected: *"I make a break, and you’re f**ing sitting."

He didn’t yell or make a big scene. But coming from Sinner? It was pretty amazing to see.

This is a guy who basically never swears at anyone on court. It was like watching someone’s calm older brother finally lose it for a second.

The good news is this doesn’t mean there’s any real drama with his team. They immediately started cheering louder after that, showing they totally got the message.

Actually, this might be a really good thing for Sinner.

Maybe he’s finally learning to speak up about what he needs from his team. That could actually make Cahill and Vagnozzi’s jobs easier – they’ll know exactly when to bring more energy.

One win away from No. 1

Before Paris started, Sinner thought his chances of finishing as year-end No. 1 were basically zero. It seemed like that ship had sailed for 2025.

Then Carlos Alcaraz had a complete meltdown.

The Spaniard lost to Cameron Norrie in the second round – a result that nobody saw coming. Alcaraz had reached the final of every tournament he’d played since the Monte-Carlo Masters earlier this year.

Sinner took full advantage. After beating Shelton, he absolutely destroyed Alexander Zverev 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals.

Zverev was basically dead on his feet after a brutal quarterfinal against Daniil Medvedev that went way too late Friday night.

Now Sinner’s in the final against Felix Auger-Aliassime. If he wins, he’ll be back at No. 1 when the new rankings come out Monday.

But here’s the catch: Alcaraz is still the favorite to finish the year on top. That’s because Sinner has to defend all the points he earned from winning last year’s ATP Finals.

Still, getting back to No. 1 – even briefly – would be a nice way to cap off what’s been a pretty incredible few weeks in Paris.
