Murray Considers Wimbledon Retirement, Reveals Schedule

-

Andy Murray has made it clear when he might retire.

In 2024, Andy Murray will retire from tennis, and he’s hinted at this for a while. He first mentioned his retirement plans during the Middle Eastern tournaments earlier this year.

Many were surprised by his announcement, but he has since confirmed it multiple times. The exact timing was uncertain as he vaguely mentioned “summer,” which could include the US Open season . However, in a chat with BBC Sport before the Cinch Championships, he revealed that Wimbledon or the Olympics would be ideal places to end his career.

Retirement Plans:

Murray said, “I don’t think so. Probably if I was going to finish my career I would rather finish at Wimbledon or an Olympic Games – to me that would probably be more fitting. I’ve had amazing experiences and memories from Wimbledon, but also being part of British Olympics teams.”

With two gold medals from the Olympics, it’s clear why finishing there makes sense for him. Fans might feel emotional about such a significant moment in sports history.

Wimbledon is another strong contender as it’s his home turf and a place where he’s tasted victory before. Yet, Murray hasn’t decided firmly on where he’ll play his last match.

As of now, there’s still some time left before any final decision is made. For Murray, it all depends on how well he feels physically throughout this year.

“To get a chance to compete at a fifth one is a reason to stay motivated and continue playing,” said Murray. “Like I said, a lot of it is based on results and physically how I’m feeling as well.”

What do you think? Where should Andy Murray play his final match?
