Petchey Criticizes Media Bias on Djokovic Injury Recovery

-

Veteran commentator Mark Petchey thinks the media is unfair when it comes to Novak Djokovic’s knee surgery and quick return.

Djokovic had surgery on his right knee after winning in the fourth round at Roland Garros last month. He hasn’t played since then.

Doctors initially doubted he would be ready for Wimbledon, but Djokovic’s recovery has been surprisingly fast .

Media Double Standards:

Petchey noticed that Taylor Fritz had a similar injury three years ago but didn’t get as much attention. “Fritz made Wimbledon in 2021 after RG with the same issues Novak had and we heard crickets,” Petchey said. “It did show us one thing though, just how much Taylor Fritz unconditionally loves tennis (well done today btw).”

Fans might think it’s odd that Djokovic gets so much more focus than Fritz did.

“Novak Djokovic makes it and everyone losing their mind. The double standards are wild at times in this sport,” added Petchey.

Djokovic reached out to Fritz after learning about his similar surgery and found out it took him only 21 days to get back on the court for Wimbledon in 2021. Now, Djokovic is ready to play again this fortnight as the number two seed against Czech qualifier Vit Kopriva.
