The 2025 Los Cabos Open has locked in some pretty exciting names for this July, even though the tournament’s bouncing around the tennis calendar again.
This Mexican ATP 250 event ran from late July to mid-August every year from 2016 to 2023. But then it got bumped to February last year because the Olympics took over its usual summer slot.
Now it’s back where it belongs.

The tournament will run from July 14th to 20th this year, jumping in right after Wimbledon wraps up. It’s going head-to-head with the Bastad Open and Swiss Open during the same week.
Jordan Thompson is coming back to defend his title after beating Casper Ruud in last year’s final. Past winners include some big names like Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev, and Fabio Fognini.
Musetti Makes Interesting Choice
Lorenzo Musetti headlines the entry list, and honestly, this is a bit surprising.
You’d think the Italian would stick to clay courts in Bastad or Gstaad this summer. He’s been absolutely crushing it on the dirt this year.
Musetti was the only guy to reach at least the semifinals in all four major clay events – Monte-Carlo, Madrid, Rome, and Roland Garros. That’s pretty incredible consistency.
Instead, he’s jumping straight onto hard courts after Wimbledon. It shows he’s confident about competing on any surface as he builds toward the big summer tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati before the US Open.
The Monte-Carlo runner-up has that kind of talent where he can cause problems anywhere.
Rublev Looking for Better Days
Andrey Rublev is another big name on the list, though 2025 hasn’t been his best year.
His highlight so far was winning the Qatar Open back in February, beating Jack Draper in a three-set final.
But that’s been about it for major wins. Rublev hasn’t reached the quarterfinals of any Grand Slam or Masters 1000 event this season, which is really unusual for someone of his caliber.
Shapovalov Returns to Mexico
Denis Shapovalov will be back in Mexico for the second time this year. He had a solid run in Acapulco, making the semifinals before losing to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets.
That Acapulco run came just a few weeks after Shapovalov won the biggest title of his career at the Dallas Open.
The former Wimbledon semifinalist has been pretty quiet since then, though. He’s struggled to find his rhythm over the past three months.
Davidovich Fokina would be fun to watch in Los Cabos. The unpredictable Spaniard can be electric when he’s on his game.
Hopefully he’s healthy after pulling out of Queen’s Club, which ended up giving Carlos Alcaraz a late opponent change.
Strong Supporting Cast
The rest of the field includes defending champion Thompson, Brandon Nakashima, Borna Coric, Daniel Altmaier, and Cameron Norrie.
It’s a nice mix of young talent and experienced players. Should make for some really good tennis in the Mexican heat.
