Sinner Surpasses Djokovic as World No. 1 While Shelton Cracks ATP Top 10

-

Jannik Sinner just hit another milestone that puts him in some pretty exclusive company.

The Italian superstar is now into his 54th consecutive week as World No. 1, and that’s a bigger deal than you might think.

By reaching 54 weeks straight at the top, Sinner just passed Novak Djokovic on the all-time list. During Djokovic’s first run as No. 1 back in 2011-2012, he managed 53 consecutive weeks.

That puts the 23-year-old Italian in fourth place all-time for consecutive weeks at No. 1.

The guys ahead of him? Well, Roger Federer’s 237 straight weeks is probably untouchable. Same goes for Jimmy Connors’ 160 weeks. But Lleyton Hewitt’s 75 consecutive weeks – now that’s looking pretty reachable for Sinner.

He’d need just 21 more weeks to catch the Australian.

The Top Stays Quiet

This week’s rankings didn’t see much drama at the very top. Most of the big names skipped the grass-court warm-up events in the Netherlands and Germany.

Carlos Alcaraz stayed put at No. 2 with 8,850 points.

Alexander Zverev actually played – he reached the final in Stuttgart – but he’s still comfortably in third place. The German picked up 165 points for making the final but lost 50 points from last year, so he’s sitting on 6,500 points total.

The Battle for Wimbledon Seeding

Here’s where things get really interesting. The fight for that crucial fourth seed at Wimbledon is heating up big time.

Taylor Fritz jumped back into fourth place after winning the Stuttgart title. That 250-point payday moved him to 4,735 points and knocked Djokovic down to fifth.

Djokovic’s got 4,630 points, which isn’t a huge gap behind Fritz.

Jack Draper felt the sting of not defending his Stuttgart title from last year. Losing those 250 points dropped him to sixth with 4,550 points.

Lorenzo Musetti also took a hit for skipping Stuttgart, where he made the semis last year. He’s now seventh with 4,470 points.

The crazy thing? All four of these guys – Fritz, Djokovic, Draper, and Musetti – are separated by just 265 points. That’s basically one good tournament result.

After seventh place, there’s a pretty big drop-off. Tommy Paul is eighth with 3,470 points – a full thousand points behind Musetti.

New Face in the Top 10

Ben Shelton finally cracked the top 10.

The American’s semifinal run in Stuttgart was enough to push him to World No. 10 with 3,170 points. Not bad for a guy who’s still figuring out the grass-court game.

That bumped Holger Rune down a spot, though the Dane stayed close at ninth with 3,440 points.

Career-High Weeks

The biggest movers this week? That would be Gabriel Diallo and Zizou Bergs, who faced off in the Libema Open final.

Diallo won the title and jumped 11 spots to a career-high No. 44. Bergs didn’t come away empty-handed either – his runner-up finish moved him up 14 places to No. 49, also a career best.

Not bad for a guy whose name most tennis fans probably couldn’t pronounce six months months ago.

With Wimbledon just around the corner, these rankings could shift pretty dramatically in the next few weeks. But for now, Sinner’s just enjoying the view from the top.
