Sinner Zverev Tsitsipas & Top Tennis Stars

-

Tennis fans in Beijing are getting ready for some serious action. The 2025 China Open runs from September 25th to October 1st, and it’s shaping up to be one heck of a tournament.

This isn’t just any regular event – it’s an ATP 500-level tournament, which means big points and bigger prize money. The China Open has been around since 1993, and some pretty amazing players have lifted the trophy in Beijing over the years.

Novak Djokovic owns this tournament with six titles. His most recent win came back in 2015 when he absolutely demolished Rafael Nadal 6-2, 6-2 in the final. That was vintage Djokovic – clinical and ruthless when it mattered most.

But Djokovic won’t be the only former champion missing this year.

Carlos Alcaraz, who won last year’s title, has decided to skip Beijing entirely. That’s a huge surprise considering he put on an absolute show in 2024, beating Jannik Sinner in what many called one of the best ATP 500 finals ever.

The match lasted over three hours and went to a deciding set tiebreak. Alcaraz somehow found a way to win despite looking completely exhausted.

Instead, Alcaraz is heading to the Japan Open in Tokyo the same week. It’s a puzzling choice since the prize money in China is always higher than Japan, and he’s the defending champion in Beijing.

Sinner’s Big Opportunity

With Alcaraz out of the picture, Jannik Sinner becomes the obvious favorite. The current world No. 1 won this tournament back in 2023, beating Daniil Medvedev 7-6, 7-6 in a tight final.

Sinner’s got plenty of motivation beyond just winning another title. He’s got tons of points to defend between now and the end of the season, including at the ongoing US Open. If he doesn’t play really well in these final months, Alcaraz could actually overtake him at No. 1.

The pressure’s definitely on.

Alexander Zverev is the second seed and probably Sinner’s biggest threat. The Olympic gold medalist had a golden opportunity earlier this season when Sinner was out for three months, but he couldn’t capitalize. His form completely fell off during that period.

Now he’s trying to bounce back and finally win that elusive first Grand Slam at the US Open. He’s been working with Toni Nadal recently, which has raised some eyebrows around the tennis world.

Dark Horses and Familiar Faces

Don’t sleep on Andrey Rublev. The Russian has made the quarterfinals of Grand Slams ten times and absolutely loves these ATP 500 events. He can definitely challenge anyone on hard courts when he’s feeling it.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is another interesting name on the entry list. He recently ended his brief coaching partnership with Goran Ivanisevic after Wimbledon and went back to working with his father. Sometimes these family reunions work out pretty well.

Daniil Medvedev will be there too, fresh off his controversial antics at the US Open that had everyone talking. When he’s focused on tennis instead of arguing with umpires, he’s still one of the most dangerous players in the world.

The entry list also includes some rising stars like Jakub Mensik and veterans like Gael Monfils, who’s somehow still competing at age 37 and playing some great tennis.

The tournament will also feature four wild cards (WC), one special exempt (SE), and four qualifiers (Q) who’ll battle their way through qualifying rounds.

With Alcaraz’s absence, this could be the perfect chance for Sinner to cement his position at No. 1 or for someone like Zverev to make a real statement. Either way, Beijing should deliver some fantastic tennis.
