Zverev Criticizes Fritz’s Box Members After Wimbledon Clash

-

Alexander Zverev lost to Taylor Fritz in a tough five-set match at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.

After his previous match, Zverev admitted he wasn’t sure about his physical condition due to a knee injury from the third round. Despite this, he tried hard against Fritz, who eventually won in five sets.

Zverev was leading by two sets but couldn’t keep up as his condition worsened. He didn’t hide his struggles after the game and said it was clear he wasn’t at his best .

Post-Match Reflections:

“Me and Taylor grew up together, playing since juniors. It was obvious I wasn’t 100% today. I couldn’t move well or run for dropshots,” Zverev said.

“If I ran for a dropshot, I limped more than ran. By the fourth and fifth set, serving became tough too; jumping off my leg to create power was hard.”

Fans might think it’s impressive how close Zverev came to winning despite not being fully fit.

Zverev accepted the loss because he gave it his all under the circumstances. Almost winning while not being at full strength is quite commendable.

However, what annoyed him were some celebrations from Fritz’s box that felt excessive. While praising most of Fritz’s team as respectful, someone else in the box irritated him.

“His team is very respectful—his coach, physio, second coach—they’re all great. But there were others in the box who seemed over-the-top,” Zverev noted.

“They were excited and pumped up since Taylor fought back from two sets down. But no issues with Taylor himself; he’s a great guy.”

What do you think about how they celebrated?
