Carlos Alcaraz is back and ready to defend his grass-court throne. The two-time Wimbledon champion just got his first look at what’s standing in his way at the 2025 Queen’s Club Championships.
And it’s not going to be easy.
Alcaraz won this tournament back in 2023, but his opening match will be against fellow Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. That’s a tough start for anyone, even someone who’s dominated Wimbledon the past two years.
| Name | Age | Points | Stats 2024 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carlos Alcaraz | 22 | 68,791 | 25 - 5 |
The winner of that Spanish showdown faces another tricky test. Jordan Thompson is waiting in the wings, and the Australian absolutely loves playing on grass. He’ll likely cruise past clay-court specialist Jaume Munar in his opener.
If Alcaraz makes it through those early rounds, he could run into sixth-seeded Ben Shelton in the quarterfinals.
Shelton starts against a qualifier, but things get interesting after that. He might face Reilly Opelka in the second round – if the big-serving American can beat Camilo Ugo Carabelli. Opelka’s using a protected ranking to get into the tournament after injury struggles.
Home Crowd Favorite
On the other side of the draw, there’s a player who’ll have thousands of British fans cheering his name. Jack Draper comes in as the second seed, and he’s got a real shot at making history.
No British player has won at Queen’s Club since Andy Murray back in 2016.
Draper’s path starts with Jenson Brooksby, another player using his protected ranking to compete. The winner gets either Alexei Popyrin or a qualifier in round two.
Taylor Fritz might be feeling the squeeze when he arrives in London. The third seed just made it to the final in Stuttgart, so he’ll be racing from Germany to the UK with barely any time to rest.
At least Fritz gets a qualifier in his opener. But his second round could feature another home favorite – Jacob Fearnley.
Young Guns and Veterans
Fourth seed Holger Rune has his hands full right away with Matteo Arnaldi in round one. Both guys are young and hungry, but whoever wins that match gets something completely different in round two.
Grigor Dimitrov and Gael Monfils are squaring off in what might be the most entertaining first-round match of the tournament. Two veterans who know how to put on a show.
This tournament serves as the perfect warmup for Wimbledon, which starts just two weeks later. For Alcaraz, it’s a chance to fine-tune his grass-court game before defending his title at the All England Club.
