Carlos Alcaraz shared his thoughts on Emma Raducanu’s mixed doubles controversy at Wimbledon 2024.
Emma was doing great a few days ago, but things quickly changed. She made it to the second week of Wimbledon.
She had also planned to play mixed doubles with Andy Murray in his final Wimbledon match . However, she pulled out due to wrist pain, ending Murray’s career at Wimbledon and leaving fans upset.
Raducanu had surgery on her wrist before, so the soreness was a valid reason for her withdrawal. Unfortunately, she also lost her singles match to a lower-ranked player and didn’t reach the quarter-finals.

Alcaraz’s Perspective:
After winning at SW19, Alcaraz was asked about Raducanu’s decision. Even Judy Murray commented on it.
“It’s a difficult situation. She said she was going to play mixed doubles with Andy in the last Wimbledon of his career… I’m sure she didn’t want to pull out of the mixed doubles. She had her reasons to do it. I guess physical problems.”
He understood that it was tough since it was Murray’s last Wimbledon but believed Raducanu didn’t want to withdraw. Sometimes athletes have to make hard choices for their careers.
“I don’t know, she’s facing the fourth round of a Grand Slam at Wimbledon, I think it’s special for her playing in England. I’m sure a lot of players in her position would do the same thing as her. Obviously, knowing it’s his last Wimbledon is difficult to deal with.”
Fans might feel that this news is very disappointing yet understandable given the circumstances.
