Holger Rune is one of the youngest guys on the ATP Tour. Like most people his age, he spends some of his downtime scrolling through social media.
And that’s where things got messy recently.
Anyone who’s been on social media knows you’ll find pretty much everything there. Educational stuff, celebrity updates, funny memes – but also fake news that looks way too real.
| Name | Age | Points | Stats 2024 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Holger Rune | 22 | 2,540 | 22 - 12 |
Fake news accounts have been popping up everywhere lately. They’re especially popular on X (what used to be Twitter). The people running these accounts think it’s hilarious to "prank" anyone who believes their made-up stories.
Basketball has NBA Centel, which copies the real NBA Central account that posts actual news.
Now tennis has its own version called Tennis Centel.
The account posts stuff that sounds believable but is completely fake. They’ve "reported" that Iga Swiatek sells her Wimbledon towels on eBay and that Stefanos Tsitsipas wants to start group therapy with other ATP players.
But recently, they started targeting Rune’s dating life.
Veronika Kudermetova mentioned that Rune tried approaching her, not realizing she had a husband. Tennis Centel jumped on that story and started making fun of the 21-year-old Dane’s romantic attempts.
Rune had enough.
He called out the account and asked his followers to report it. For a few hours, Tennis Centel actually disappeared from X. But it came back pretty quickly and went right back to mocking his love life.
Why Rune Drew the Line
While competing at the 2025 Cincinnati Open, Rune explained why he decided to speak up. He thinks this type of content crosses a line when it comes to athletes.
"I like jokes, I like fun, all of this, but sometimes it gets a bit too real in a way—even though it’s fake. That’s when I don’t think it’s necessary. Obviously, it’s tough to control the whole internet!"
"I think some posts where it looks too real even though it’s super fake, those are not nice. It’s a little bit provocative, as well, but I suppose everyone can do what they want."
It’s pretty tough being a young athlete in the social media age. Everything you do gets scrutinized, and now fake stories about your personal life can go viral too.
Holger Rune stays in touch with Andre Agassi
Away from the Twitter drama, Rune’s been focusing on what really matters – his tennis.
He recently worked with Andre Agassi, which got a lot of fans wondering if the legendary American might become his full-time coach.
Speaking in Cincinnati, the Danish player revealed he’s been staying in touch with Agassi. The eight-time Grand Slam champion has been giving him advice regularly.
"We’ve been in touch. We spoke after Toronto and he also messaged me today. It’s nice! We speak a little bit; he shares his view, I share my view. It’s nice to have someone to speak tennis with who is as into it as I am. I’ve been getting some really good feedback, which is always great."
Having someone like Agassi in your corner isn’t something that happens every day. The American knows what it’s like to deal with intense pressure and media attention from a young age.
Whether their partnership becomes something more permanent remains to be seen. But for now, Rune seems pretty happy getting advice from one of tennis’s all-time greats.
