Ruud Berrettini Dimitrov Tennis Updates

-

The 2025 Stockholm Open runs from October 13-19, and some pretty solid players have already committed to this ATP 250 indoor hard court event.

This tournament’s got serious history. It first started back in 1969, making it one of the oldest events on the ATP tour.

Swedish fans pack the arena every year, which is why this tournament’s stayed relevant for over five decades. That kind of loyalty from the home crowd really makes a difference.

The list of past winners reads like a tennis hall of fame. Roger Federer, Boris Becker, and John McEnroe have all lifted the trophy in Stockholm.

Federer’s 2010 appearance was totally unexpected and gave fans an amazing show before he started cutting back his schedule in later years.

Tommy Paul is coming back to defend his title after a really impressive 2024 run. He beat Grigor Dimitrov in last year’s final with one of his best performances of the season.

That win was part of Paul’s breakthrough year that nearly got him into the 2024 ATP Finals. The American recently got engaged to his long-time partner, so he’s got plenty of good vibes going into the tournament.

Paul’s 2025 season hasn’t been quite as spectacular, but he’s still dangerous on indoor hard courts.

Dimitrov’s Participation in Doubt

Dimitrov is on the entry list, but there’s a big question mark over whether he’ll actually play.

He’s been out since retiring from his Wimbledon quarterfinal against Jannik Sinner with a torn chest muscle. That injury came at the worst possible moment – Dimitrov was up two sets and completely dominating Sinner.

It was honestly one of the most heartbreaking moments of the season.

The injury also gave Dimitrov an unwanted record: he became the first man to retire from five straight Grand Slams.

Casper Ruud could really use a good week in Stockholm. The Norwegian’s had a mixed year that’s been pretty disappointing by his usual standards.

His Grand Slam results have been rough – second-round exits at the Australian Open and French Open, plus he missed Wimbledon entirely due to injury.

But Ruud did capture his biggest title at the 2025 Madrid Open, beating Jack Draper in the final. That’s still his only Masters 1000 crown at age 26.

Matteo Berrettini just returned to action at the Hangzhou Open after another injury-plagued stretch. The 2021 Wimbledon runner-up had only played one event since May’s Italian Open because of a right oblique injury.

His comeback didn’t go great – lucky loser Dalibor Svrcina beat him pretty easily, 6-3, 6-3.

Berrettini’s hoping for better results in Stockholm, though indoor hard courts haven’t been his strongest surface. He’s never even reached a final in those conditions.

Denis Shapovalov brings the kind of aggressive style that could work really well on these Swedish indoor courts. He proved that by winning the 2024 Belgrade Open.

That tournament has since moved to Athens after Novak Djokovic relocated there following tensions with the Serbian government.

It’ll be interesting to see how Marin Cilic performs. The 2014 US Open champion is 36 now and coming off a disappointing title defense in Hangzhou, where he lost in the first round.

Cilic needs to play much better if he wants any success before 2025 ends.

The entry list also includes Ugo Humbert, Tallon Griekspoor, Cameron Norrie, and Lorenzo Sonego.
