The 2025 Cincinnati Open draw is out, and tennis fans are getting exactly what they wanted to see.
Both Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz – the world’s top two players – will be competing in Ohio this August. That’s a huge upgrade from the Canadian Open, where neither of the superstars showed up.
This Masters 1000 event runs from August 7-18 and serves as the final big tune-up before the US Open.
| Name | Age | Points | Stats 2024 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carlos Alcaraz | 22 | 68,791 | 25 - 5 |
The tournament organizers placed the two favorites on opposite sides of the draw, setting up a potential blockbuster final. Sinner, the defending champion and top seed, gets a first-round bye before facing either a qualifier or Vit Kopriva.
His path could get interesting quickly though.
In the third round, Sinner might have to deal with Gabriel Diallo. The Canadian’s got a monster serve that could give anyone trouble, even the world No. 1.
Alcaraz sits at the very bottom of the draw as the second seed. The Spaniard will face either Mattia Bellucci or Damir Dzumhur in his opening match. His potential third-round opponent? Tallon Griekspoor, who’s been playing some solid tennis lately.
Former Champs Looking for Another Title
Sinner isn’t the only past winner in this year’s field.
Daniil Medvedev won Cincinnati back in 2019. The Russian comes in as the 12th seed this time around. He’ll start against either a qualifier or Adam Walton, then could face Jiri Lehecka in the third round.
Alexander Zverev claimed the title in 2021 and he’s the third seed here. The German landed in Alcaraz’s half of the draw. His opening opponent will be either Gael Monfils or Nishesh Basavareddy.
Then there’s Borna Coric.
His 2022 title run was pretty shocking – nobody saw it coming. But repeating that magic trick won’t be easy this year. He didn’t even get seeded and has to face Christopher O’Connell right off the bat.
If Coric wins that match, he gets the pleasure of taking on fourth-seeded Taylor Fritz in round two. Talk about a tough draw.
Young Guns Ready to Make Their Mark
Beyond the Sinner-Alcaraz show, there’s plenty of young talent looking to break through.
Ben Shelton comes in as the fifth seed and he’s hungry for his first Masters 1000 title. The American could get a fascinating second-round matchup against Kei Nishikori – if the former world No. 4 can get past Camilo Ugo Carabelli first.
Holger Rune is another youngster with big ambitions. The Danish player sits as the seventh seed and will face either Alejandro Tabilo or Roman Safiullin in his opener.
The next generation is clearly knocking on the door. With Novak Djokovic skipping this event (along with Jack Draper, Grigor Dimitrov, and Alexander Bublik), there’s extra opportunity for someone new to step up.
Cincinnati has always been a great predictor of US Open form. This year’s field suggests we’re in for some pretty amazing tennis before the year’s final Grand Slam gets underway.
